Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA):

Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) is a type of housing designed for individuals with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. These accommodations are tailored to provide a supportive living environment for people with disabilities, enabling them to live as independently as possible.

SDA Categories

The SDA is divided into four main design categories, each catering to specific needs:

  • Improved Liveability:

Designed for individuals with sensory, intellectual, or cognitive impairments. Features include enhanced lighting, improved wayfinding, and other design elements to improve overall living experience.

  • Fully Accessible:

Designed for individuals who require high levels of physical accessibility. Includes features like wide doorways, step-free access, and bathroom modifications.

  • High Physical Support:

Tailored for individuals with complex physical disabilities that require a high level of support. Features include structural provisions for ceiling hoists, backup power supply, and wheelchair accessibility.

  • Robust:

Designed for individuals with complex and challenging behaviors. Includes features like secure doors and windows, high-impact walls, and safe spaces for both residents and staff.
